Biography:
Dustin O’Neal has lived and worked in Ruston, Louisiana for the past five years. Concentrating on achieving his B.F.A. from Louisiana Tech University, he started in 2-d studio concentrating on charcoal drawings of self-portraits, looking into what manifested his identity and state of mind. This developed into a keen interest in sculpture and how forms interact with the space they are presented with. Geometry has played a significant role in the process of his work, but he has assembled his forms in such a way that they take on a more figural form with minimal characteristics. Through his studies at Louisiana Tech, he has been recognized in the 2008 and 2009 Louisiana Tech Student Art show, and in his 2009 Senior Exhibition show at Brad Arender’s Gallery in Monroe Louisiana.
Dustin O'Neal was born in Slidell, LA in 1985, and lived there until 2004, where he left his roots to achieve a higher education at Louisiana Tech. When he lived in Slidell, he had many influential factors that helped him decide his career path. One was the close proximity to New Orleans, LA. There he discovered the influence of the artistic culture through urban graffiti art and the contemporary fine art found on Royal St. and the downtown galleries. Through this, he has concentrated on learning his identity and who he is through his artwork.
